AI-driven development looks at tools, technologies and best practices for embedding AI into applications and using AI to create AI-powered tools for the development process. This trend is evolving along three dimensions: The tools used to build AI-powered solutions are expanding from tools targeting data scientists (AI infrastructure, AI frameworks and AI platforms) to tools targeting the professional developer community (AI platforms, AI services). With these tools the professional developer can infuse AI powered capabilities and models into an application without involvement of a professional data scientist. The tools used to build AI-powered solutions are being empowered with AI-driven capabilities that assist professional developers and automate tasks related to the development of AI-enhanced solutions. Augmented analytics, automated testing, automated code generation and automated solution development will speed the development process and empower a wider range of users to develop applications. AI-enabled tools are evolving from assisting and automating functions related to application development (AD) to being enhanced with business domain expertise and automating activities higher on the AD process stack (from general development to business solution design). The market will shift from a focus on data scientists partnered with developers to developers operating independently using predefined models delivered as a service. This enables more developers to utilize the services, and increases efficiency. Embedded sensors collect data, which is fed to algorithms that give that object the illusion of intelligence. This enables drones to follow a moving object like a truck or a person autonomously. It enables a 3-D printer to automatically modify a design as it is being printed to have a stronger structure, become lighter, or be more cost effective to print. It enables AR glasses to overlay data on an anchored endpoint or allow you to communicate via voice with a robot or conversational agent.

Intra-generational fairness: Striking the balance between the present and future has always had its challenges, but as demographics, political structures, and technological advances collide, the intra-generational equity issues are gaining a front and center seat. Demographic trends suggest that our population is aging dramatically and at a faster pace than the regular population. Digital rift: The rapid flux of technology and digitalization of the world have fundamentally shifted the ways in which we operate. For example, as mobile technology has grown exponentially in the past decade, it has given a distinct advantage to the millennials and generations X, Y, and Z who more quickly adopt the change. For example, a Pew Research Study found that seniors continued to lag behind all Americans when it came to cell phone ownership, broadband access, and even using the Internet at all. Resource footprint: While not wholly attributable to an aging population, the behaviors and tendencies of this demographic may point to indirect effects on the environment and our planet. For example, data has suggested that as older people retire, particularly in developed and Western countries, their level of leisure consumption and travel rises creating impacts on CO2 and greenhouse emissions. Silver agers: As the Baby Boomer generation prepares to retire, economists are predicting “a silver tsunami” in the workforce, a massive simultaneous exiting in the workforce of the population aged 65 and older.
